Migration

I’ve come to the conclusion that the b2evolution 1.10 engine I have been using must be abandoned and have therefore migrated my blog to WordPress.

Soon there will be a new version of the subConch software available where synth-data and emo-data can be sent out as OSC over UDP to other applications. It will also support running multiple instances for different users/headsets on the same computer, all sending OSC data to individual ports.

The exhibit at ANX

The exhibit at Atelier Nord ANX! I completely forgot to blog about this, but here it is. The exhibit was a great success. Before the opening I was very worried that people would have problems fitting the headset or that they would be able to make it work – cognitive control with the Emotiv headset is something that usually takes a lot of practice. I had tried to solve this by building an intensive training session into the installation, and it seems to have paid off. The users were prompted three times to think about some desire they had in life, while the software recorded their brainwaves. Most guests in the gallery achieved a 20-40% skill rating – a number that tells you roughly how similar your thoughts and brain patterns were the tree times they were recorded. This was more than enough for most users to achieve an undisputed sense of control over the sound and lights. Also a gallery assistant was there to help every visitor put the headset on, so there was little trouble getting the sensors to fit.

Minuet – a short film

I have now finished the storyboard for the short film I’m making. I have started looking at the production design and have, after talking to a prop builder, decided to postpone shooting until next summer.

Special Effects man Steinar Kaarstad is now engaged in the project. He has experience from a wide range of films including the international success The Troll Hunter. He will spend the fall and winter building the props by hand based on drawings and 3d visualizations. Very exciting!
I have also contacted a production company in Oslo about producing the film. A professional producer can help me up the budget.

The subConch in a podcast!

Hello! It’s been a long time without many updates – I will blog more soon about why. Here is a podcast by Gordon McGladdery, a sound designer from Vancouver, who stumbled upon the subConch on YouTube while researching audio mind control conspiracy theories!

General release

logoFinally the subConch is out in a general release. Version 0.8.5. You can download it below. Please leave comments, feature requests and bug reports here.
Download subConch V0.8.5 download

Some Windows 64-bit users have had issues. If you are, try and download a 64-bit version of vc_redist and run it after you installed the program. You might also want to try 32-bit compatibility mode if you have problems.

Make sure you didn’t miss any of the prompts during the install, like the self-extracting archive dialogue ? they get obscured by each other.
Also it’s vital to let the vc_redist run its course. Otherwise it won’t work.
Enjoy!
CHANGELOG:
08.12.2012 ? New installer with updated vc_redist.
04.03.2012 ? Official release of subConch version 0.8.5 Charonia.

Just King!

This might be a bit sneaky since it doesn’t concern the subConch, but another project of mine. However I need to get word out to as many as possible on this other effort. It’s the crowd funding of an underground comic book of mine: an ambitious piece about war, media and politics called “Just King”. If you are interested in supporting this please read more about it here on Ulule.
